In 1940, German forces invaded Holland. Due to a promise of neutrality, the Dutch defense was not prepared and so, five days later, Holland fell to Nazi control.
Not many people know about the happenings in Holland during this time. Anne Frank's journal gives a brief insight into the terror. As well, there are few documentaries exploring the topic.
And yet, more Dutch have been honored by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority in Israel, as 'righteous gentiles' than from any other country.
'Resist' is the story of Helen Blijleven, a survivor of World War II, and the daughter and niece of Dutch Resistance members. 8 years old when the war began, Helen saw soldiers marching the streets, people pulled out of their homes, and her father and uncle risking their lives. She experienced the horrors of war, and now, so that everyone might know the victims and consequences of war, she shares her story.
