The concept of the 'Nexus' chair explores the notion of relationships and the connection between human beings with absent others. For this project I designed and constructed a 1:1 scale end product using handdrawn sketeches, paper prototyping & Vectorworks.
Materially, the ‘Nexus’ chair was constructed from plywood to create a strong weight-bearing framework. To create the sandstone textured finish I cut porcelain tiles and secured them onto the wooden surface.
This project challenged me to engineer a functional end product, whereby I learnt the importance of precision & the foundations of construction using power tools & machinery. Every surface of the ‘Nexus’ chair is identical, allowing it to exist as an object with no particular top or bottom to present a chair that is of beautiful simplicity despite its complex shape.
