Working as barista and front of house staff to make consistent, delicious espresso based and filter coffee, across the three Small Batch venues: Auction Rooms, Counter and Filter. At Small Batch there is high focus on technical ability, customer service, quality control, efficiency and professionalism, with a focus to feed their baristas knowledge (and delicious croissants) about the entire coffee process, from sourcing and roasting to brewing and tasting.
A fun, fast paced, and inspiring work environment, I scooped (and ate) quite a bit of gelato, confidently attending to customer requests, queries and complaints in a calm and friendly matter. This position required a high level of product knowledge (36+ standard flavours, plus 6 specials), sound short term memory, and impeccable people skills, concentration and focus. And we got to wear cute stripey tshirts as our uniform!
Solid knowledge of the products and equipment I work with, to deliver high quality coffee and service to customers. This includes pouring latte-art, working within a team, good communication skills and technical language to engage with customers, and using my initiative to help resolve problems that arise during service.
Working collaboratively with three other designers under creative direction in Marketing & Corporate Communications, to produce various print and web communications to NMIT's corporate style guide.
Performed death-defying feats of milk and espresso in a high-pressure,
fast-paced team environment, developed professionalism, customer service and multi-tasking skills. Also developed an addiction to caffeine.
As part of an Industry Placement program at Swinburne, I worked alongside a team of five stellar designers within a fast paced, multi-disciplinary
environment. Included roles of conceptualisation and execution in areas
of print, branding, advertising, environmental and screen based media. Responsible for liasing with clients and printers, preparing files for print and remembering everyones's coffee orders.

Hello! My name's Mel and I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Design, Interior Design. I have previously studied Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) with Honours, and have been working as a graphic designer for the last 10 years.
As much as it's absolute bliss being back at uni I'd love to get back in to the design industry as quickly as possible. I'm a very passionate and driven student, and strive to be in a role where I'm constantly learning and my design skills are challenged and extended. I believe I would be a valuable member of the team with my broad design skills and intuition, receptive personality and dedicated work ethic.
Areas of Graphic Design I specialise in:
Print Design: Typography, Brand Design, Icons, Illustration, Publication, Information Design, Environmental Graphics, Packaging and Wayfinding.
