POINTE TO PAVEMENT
Candy colours, soft pastel palette of pinks, blues and gentle lemons, lens flare blowouts and a low contrasted solar flare that creates a summer feel.
Pointe to Pavement garment range by Erin Coster is inspired by the ballet and ballet attire; I took these generalized ‘pretty’ and ‘girly’ aspects and tried to reinterpret them. Rearranging gender roles and subverting sexual identites by creating two ‘anomalies’ – the drag queen, transsexual and the androgynous or 1980’s power woman.
Moving into an age of asexuality, androgyny and anonymity, I aimed to create a feeling of high fashion ‘beauty’ and an atmosphere of the angelic and gorgeous with a twist – a challenge to the viewer to not find these identities sexual, powerful and beautiful.
