About the project

Incognito: “Having one's identity concealed, especially to avoid notice or formal attentions.”

The photographic portraits of Incognito have been tainted and blemished by multi-coloured scars. Acting as acrylic masks to hide the faces, and therefore the identities beneath them, we are only able to see the exposed and naked flesh of the body.
The portraits are of gay, straight, lesbian and transgender youths, with the viewer/audience acting as arbiter.
Incognito is a commentary on our private sexual and gender identities, the fragility and power of anonymity and the risks we face for diversity.

Ironically, these identities have now been presented formally for attention, whilst still concealed.

Exhibited at thousand Pound Bend Melbourne as part of Midsumma 2012.
