WHO YOU ARE
The Marketing and Communications Manager will manage the public image of the Monkey Baa Theatre Company and Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre.
The successful candidate will arrive at an exciting time, and will oversee the creation of our 2018 Education and Family season brochures and facilitate the 2018 Launch; create the 2018 marketing strategy for the company, that will begin with our January family season, while preparing for Josephine Wants To Dance national tour.
You will think strategically about our promotion campaigns with an imaginative, innovative and engaging approach to grow our audiences, deliver ticket and revenue targets, whilst building our brand. You will keep up to date with the social media landscape and its ever changing environment, have a flair for language, with an attention to detail. You will actively keep well informed of local and international marketing and performing arts trends, in particular for families, to inform our strategies and initiatives. You will manage the relationships with our contracted Publicist Company and Designer.
You will show initiative, a sense of humour, problem solving and job juggling skills while working with a team and autonomously.

MONKEY BAA THEATRE COMPANY
Monkey Baa is a thought provoking, inspiring theatre company for young audiences based in Sydney and was founded in 1997 by a trio of actors; Tim McGarry, Sandra Eldridge and Eva Di Cesare. In 2012 the company settled into our new home, the Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre, a brand new 236-seat state of the art venue located in the heart of the city. This is Australia’s first purpose built theatre dedicated solely to work for young people. As the resident company, Monkey Baa is responsible for managing and programming the new space.
Monkey Baa has won a string of awards, including two prestigious Helpmann Awards for Best Children’s presentation and recently the 2015 Touring Legend Drover Award. We have engaged over 1.3 million young people through a Monkey Baa production or workshop in Australia and Internationally. In 2017 the company will complete an eight month national tour of Diary of a Wombat based on the book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley, produce Where The Streets Had A Name based on the book by Randa Abdel-Fattah, tour The Unknown Soldier to the US, curate an education and family season of theatre for young people and run an extensive program of workshops and outreach programs.
The Marketing and Communications Manager will join an enthusiastic, passionate and friendly team, made up of a three strong Creative Team, General Manager, Development Manager, Education Manager, Operations Manager, Administrator and Finance Officer. We have a hands on approach as an organisation, our expectations of all company members is to be flexible and fill in the gaps when the need arises.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Position: Marketing and Communications Manager
Position Type: Full time – Monkey Baa is family friendly company and is flexible with the working hours of all staff. The role requires occasional work out of hours and off site.
Reporting to: General Manager.
Contract: Maternity leave replacement with three months probationary period.
Objective: Overall responsibility for the marketing and communications of Monkey Baa Theatre Company and the LLDQT.
Create, initiate and deliver innovative and customer focussed marketing and communication strategies across all platforms to achieve the commercial and artistic objectives of Monkey Baa at the Lendlease Darling Quarter Theatre and on the road.
Generate and manage the Marketing and Communications campaigns to drive tickets sales, revenue, positioning and audience development goals for all Monkey Baa productions and presentations ensuring expenditure does not exceed budgets set in consultation with the GM.
Provide coherent and analytical campaign reports for each Monkey Baa production and presentation and any overall reports for the board, end of year and funding bodies. Once each campaign is completed, appropriately archive the marketing materials and campaign literature.
Develop and maintain a consistent approach to language, message, brand and design across all print and electronic marketing for Monkey Baa at the Lendlease Darling Quarter Theatre and on the road.
Work with the Education Manager and Company and Venue Administrator to create a holistic approach to our communication with schools, OOHS, parents, carers, from the foyer to the website.
Create and deliver creative and engaging electronic marketing materials that promote Monkey Baa across digital platforms, while maintaining Monkey Baa’s online presence through our website, social networks, e-newsletters, listings, and other electronic marketing as appropriate. Maintain a responsive approach to electronic marketing keeping in line with current best practice.
Create concept and content, collate, write copy, edit, oversee design and manage the production and distribution of print and digital collateral. Coordinate advertising across print and digital mediums, while monitoring and analysing the return on investment.
Monitor and analyse audience data sourced through social media, website, surveys, ticketing data, etc, to better understand and grow Monkey Baa’s audience base.
Supervise and work with the Publicist to set publicity timelines and goals ensuring wide coverage of Monkey Baa and our activities.
Explore, build and maintain the most suitable CRM software for all Monkey Baa database requirements, for the management of audiences, media, donors, VIP’s, venues and general contacts, required for mail outs, invitation lists and day to day communication.
Work with the Development Manager to investigate and explore sponsorship opportunities for Monkey Baa and the LLDQT.
Work with Marketing Managers in touring venues and our Touring Coordinator by providing them with all data, information, collateral and images they request to promote Monkey Baa’s work.
Identify unique cross promotional opportunities, niche networks, and relationship marketing strategies to extend our reach.
Identify opportunities to market and promote the LLDQT to corporate and non corporate hirers.
Sell tickets to the public as necessary and any other ad hoc duties as required.
Selection Criteria: The following skills and personnel specifications are essential for applicants.
1. Proven ability and success in developing marketing and communication strategic campaigns ideally, though not essential, for children and family audiences.
2. Experience in and thorough understanding of developing effective and compelling marketing collateral across print and electronic media.
3. Demonstrated ability to analyse market and sales data to improve the quality and effectiveness of campaigns.
4. Excellent communication skills including copywriting and editing abilities
5. Energetic and highly motivated individual with demonstrated strategic initiative, organisational and project management skills and attention to detail.
6. Experience in box office and ticketing systems in particular Seat Advisor (SABO)
7. Understanding and experience in website management in particular Wordpress.
8. Experience of working on Macintosh computers and software Word, Excel, Photoshop, InDesign, Campaign Monitor, Mail Chimp.
