Optus Rockcorps is a not for profit company working to encourage youth to give 4 hours of their time, and in return, get a ticket to a music gig. Partnering with community organisations, charities and educational institutes, 4 hour projects are organised to improve facilities
Working as a project coordinator as part of a small team, projects were developed for the volunteers to complete. This ranged from designing construction projects such as making tables, benches, play equipment etc to painting in and outside buildings and murals, and landscaping work. The projects had to be designed to cater to unskilled volunteers, enabling them to complete the work in 4 hours and gain a sense of satisfaction.
The implementation of these projects involved design, problem solving, broad general knowledge of construction, painting and gardening techniques and equipment, time management skills, working within budget, forward planning, leadership and teamwork.
