Adrian Cook was recently commissioned by the Cultural Affairs, Columbian Ministry on kids from Columbia. Adrian talks about the series: "Every once in a while I’m reminded as to why I’m still enamoured with photography. This series of images were testament to that.
The Director of Cultural Affairs in the Columbian Foreign Ministry, Luis Armando Soto commissioned me to document a delegation of young Columbian surfers on tour in Australia. Their Sports Diplomacy program focuses on children in areas of the country vulnerable to violence and/or crime and aims to give them the chance to visit other countries and see opportunities that can come out of sport, music or dance.
The children, aged between 11 – 17 years old come from two quite diverse regions in Columbia. One group from the Pacific Ocean, the other from the Caribbean. None of them had ever travelled outside Columbia before.
The sweetest bunch of kids…"
