Melbourne film based digital media group 50 Kaliber films are one of our regular collaborators here at Portable, so when they approached us to create a unique new suite of web platforms for their brand upgrade, we were excited to work with a team we know first-hand to be some of the most innovative and creative people around.
With the brief simply “build a website with film as the hero” we created a video centric home page, a blog and channel page for showcasing their video hosting products. 50 Kaliber came to us with a clear, visual and concise brief that set the project in the right direction from the outset. 50 Kaliber also came up with a fun and clever concept for showcasing their team with links to each individuals blog posts and their LinkedIn profiles.
The key challenge to overcome was to ensure that all aspects of the site could be viewed on a range of different internet speeds and across desktop and mobile devices. We took a ‘mobile first’ approach to our user experience design and implemented a fully responsive, custom-built WordPress theme. This both maximized the audience reach and optimized the user experience whilst still providing a straightforward approach within the CMS to keep the site fresh and easily updated.
Other challenges including building a platform capable of handling high-resolution embedded content and finding ways to integrate the myriad of video and photographic content from 50 Kaliber that would constantly affirm the brand’s focus on the power of video.
The final result is an innovative, engaging website that realizes 50 Kaliber’s ideology of using technology to enhance the engagement of humans, and Portable’s own process of putting intelligent thinking before technology. The value of human connection remains front and centre, backed up by a beautiful interface that is an engaging as it is functional.
