About Brendan

AFTRS Documentary 2013 & Cinematography 2014 graduate Brendan Palmer has a background in Music, Broadcasting, Events and artist collectives. His recent transition to the moving image brings with it a deep understanding of multi-diciplinary audio-visual practices that influence his work, both as an emerging documentary maker and cinematographer.

In 1992 he founded the Clan Analogue electronic arts collective, then the Zonar Recordings label, specialising in cinematic albums by Australian composers. He worked professionally as a music journalist, producer and radio presenter for over a decade, both in the public and community sectors. A seven year stint at SBS Radio was followed by five years at Melbourne’s legendary community radio station Triple R.

In 2004 he launched the multi-cultural music and arts entity ‘Uber Lingua’. Starting off as a club project at Melbourne’s back alley venue St Jeromes, Uber Lingua had a strong focus on innovative video performance and projection, and went on to produce over three hundred Audio Visual events around Australia including immersive spaces at three Sydney Festival ‘First Nights’, the Darwin Festival, and the Adelaide Fringe, alongside an event in the Sydney Opera House.

Since 2009 Brendan has added film making to his skill set. His camera work is featured in the forthcoming ‘Kookie’ documentary alongside other short films still in production. He recently documented live performances Vivid’s ‘Gouttes d’un sang etranger’ and children’s theatre ‘Still Awake still’ at the Seymour Centre, and has been working in the private sector.

Brendan is a member of the ACS, and a committee member of Ozdox. In 2014 he produced the ‘Maestros of the Archive’ Ozdox forum looking at the history of archival documentary in Australia, alongside co-producing ‘Adventure’ and Cinematography sessions. In 2015 he produced the AATCA Meet the Makers Documentary forum for the AFI.
