From Melbourne Airport I drove out to Wally's (Gotye) barn/studio on his parents farm. He has 100's of amazing and obscure instruments shoved onto many rows of shelves. We shot heaps of takes, by the end Wally had shredded his vocal chords (it looks more convincing if you sing it for real, and he's a true perfectionist).
The band loved the initial idea of multiple faces singing their song, somewhere along the way it turned into this all consuming vortex of time, I couldn't help but pack it full with detail.
I sent out a casting call on the net and set up a make-shift green screen in my room at home for the actors to let loose - many great performances and some strange ones, including a dominatrix happy to get changed in my garden.
I painstakingly brought my dad's record collection to life, got into the groove of the record with a macro lens, and ripped up a lot of green and blue paper. With all the footage shot I then chained myself to a computer for a few months which crashed every few hours from the massive footage overload.
Now that it's out I couldn't be more happy with the feedback flooding in.
