I created this logo during a proposal to Sydney Water for the re-development of their Pipehead Pumping Station in Guildford, Sydney. In an interdisciplinary group of visual, industrial and fashion designers we had to come up with ways to open up the disused site to the public while protecting the heritage features. The below photo from 1913 shows the site when it was still functioning. My group’s proposal hinged on returning the site to its former glory. This meant re-filling the canal, installing museum elements and glass viewing platforms and removing ugly modern structures that hid the screening chambers. The logo depicts the three water gates which edge on to the canal. It references the site’s past and proposed future state.
