The brief is to create an Info Vis that explores the “milestones of the universe”. It summarises the entire history of astronomy and space exploration in 147 milestones from 3000BCE to 2017.
The supporting book only has detailed clarifications for certain ones – encouraging people to find 'The Milestone of the Milestones': the first red one in 1839 in which the America came to play; the first pentagonal one which indicates the Space Age; the first green one; the multi-colour ones and so on.
The diversity of achievements in the Space Age is highlighted on the cover. Colours are referenced to the Olympic rings to be more indicative to the subject.
A mapping system is created to display the pattern of our chasing of the universe over the great 5000 years. It gives you a sense of flow and adds a poetic layer to the project. To see each unique and greatly significant milestone sitting together is just making me feel humble, and to have an idea of how far we’ve come along and how many possibilities the nature has opened for us.
