With over 12 years of industry experience in designing for Surf and Swimwear brands from around Australia, Sweet Pea Studios combines all my passions and experience into freelance design for textiles, swimwear, sleepwear, interiors, fashion and footwear. I love pattern, colour & texture, created from anything, from nature, architecture, travel, to an emotion.
Although now a purely freelance design service, Sweet Pea Studios originated from a passion for vintage textiles and baby wear. After the birth of my first child and leaving full time work for the first time, I felt an overwhelming urge to fullfill my creative needs during my spare time. Hence Sweet Pea Studios Babywear was born; Australian made, boutique styled babywear.
I developed a range of reversible baby bonnets, bloomers and appliqued singlets, which I sold directly to childrenswear retailers in Sydney, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. I maintained control from every angle, from fabric selection, to patterns & design, production, packaging, sales and administration.
I sourced unique high quality fabrics (Vintage, pre-loved and new fabrics) to create gorgeous limited run’s and one off designs for Australian babies. The hero product was the bonnet which was a modern and reversible design with an adjustable chin strap, and an extra long brim for sun protection and discreet breast feeding. The bonnets matched back to a small range of bloomers and singlets to provide the complete outfit. Each design came packaged in it’s own gift box with ribbon, to really extend the personal hand-made feeling that came with the product.

I began working as a freelance designer for Miss Cocoa in 2012. My role was to conceptualise and design the artwork for all Miss Cocoa swimwear and clothing, which was done in Illustrator and Photoshop. Once a print was finalised I developed clothing and swimwear styling and storyboards, and dealt with factories in China to create strikeoffs and samples. I was also responsible for designing and producing the seasonal catalogue for each range along with other marketing material required by agents and retailers.
Alongside the Miss Cocoa range I designed for the Big W swimwear range which was contracted through Miss Cocoa. This was a similar process, each range would be presented to the buyers from Big W for selection, followed by sampling and production.
As Ladies footwear designer my role was to Research, Conceptualise and Design open and closed toe footwear ranges for Kustom Footwear. I was responsible for researching and building the range structure, producing spec sheets, and dealing with manufacturers in China and India for sampling, production and pricing. I oversaw merchandise/production operations for the ladies footwear department, and assisted with Marketing conceptualisation and applications, as well as presenting the range at sales meetings and Range Release.
During my time at 2 Chillies I designed swimwear ranges for 2 Chillies labelled swimwear and clothing, as well as other brands such as Citybeach, Miss Shop, Big W, Best & Less, Crazy Clark's, and Azure. Working alongside a team of designers (ranging from 2-5 designers), I was responsible for the research and delivery of swimwear design concepts according to specified briefs, all the time working to meet regular deadlines. My role included print design, colour analysis, spec sheets & strikeoffs, range structure, story boards, photoshoot, plus working directly with manufacturers in China.
I have also worked with 2 Chillies in a freelance capacity in 2010 and 2011. I worked alongside the inhouse design team to meet deadlines with the 2 Chillies label, and other contracted ranges.
