Lepus Australis - An exhibition celebrating domestic bunnies in Australia.
Thursday 4th July 2013 - Sunday 14th July 2013.
No Vacancy Gallery QV Melbourne.
Emerging and established local illustrators have come together in a positive celebration of all things rabbit and Australiana, including an installation of one thousand origami bunnies.
Not only will we be filling No Vacancy gallery with many, many bunnies, our aim is also to draw attention to the plight of the humble domestic bunny in Australia.
In 1950 the highly contagious and fatal disease "myxomatosis" was released into Australia to control the wild rabbit population, however wild rabbits have developed an immunity to the disease while our lovely little pets still have no protection at all! Spread by biting insects such as mosquitoes and fleas, it is impossible to completely protect our pet bunnies from this virus and once contracted, the sick bunny will die. Having to say goodbye to an otherwise perfectly healthy family member is so cruel and it causes so much heartache, the only solution is to legalise the myxomatosis vaccine and make it available in Australia.
