  • NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority, formerly BOSTES and Office of the Board of Studies)
    Graphic Designer
    2007 - 2017

The primary responsibility for this role is designing and preparing the Higher School Certificate examination for print and web, while also making the examination accessible to those with special needs due to disabilities.

The role requires the use of Adobe design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat) to format the designs within NESA and HSC style guidelines, as well as create/reformat complex diagrams/graphics, and touch up photographs. Some examinations require fonts for languages other then English, as well as information created in music (Sibelius) and mathematical software (MathType), both of which I have a working knowledge. Responsibilities also include liaising with different examination committees, attending the recording studio, proofing prints at the printer for final output, maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy due to the nature of the work, and making online material accessible within Acrobat.

During my time at NESA I have also filled a temporary role for a senior designer with an overflow of work in publications for the Digital Strategies and Services section of NESA, assisting with the design of promotional flyers, the annual report, advertisements, publications, newsletters, certificates and making adjustments to new corporate logos within new branding guidelines, as well as preparing items for web and print.

    2005 - 2005

The role also entailed preparing plate impositions using Prinect and Prinect Signa Station; correctly managing spot and process colours; ensuring correct, non-corrupt fonts are used; applying die-cuts, overprint inks and varnishes to relevant jobs; creating print and web PDFs and making requested alterations. Regular liaison with sales representatives and project managers was required to ensure the best outcome. Some small in-house design/formatting tasks were also performed for Paragon and Green Frog (Paragon’s promotional facility).
