Gemma O'Brien is a designer based in Sydney working primarily with hand-drawn lettering, typography, graphic design, illustration and art direction for motion graphics.
Over the past four years she has created work for clients including The New York Times, Smirnoff, Canon, SBS, Ferrero: Mon Cheri, Woolworths, Artline, Vodafone, ABC3, Taronga Zoo, Bob Hawke, and Julia Stone. Her work has been published in books and magazines including Grafik, Graphic Design Referenced, Just My Type, Form Magazine, Frankie and Slanted Magazine .
Her work has been exhibited in shows at Gallery Eight, Somedays, Object Gallery, Lo-Fi Collective, Gaffa Gallery, The Wall and The Paper Mill. She has presented at conferences including Typo Berlin, Germany in 2009, Semi Permanent (Sydney, Brisbane and Perth) in 2011 and will present at the forthcoming agIdeas International Design Conference in Melbourne 2013.
In 2010 she worked as a designer at Animal Logic and directed the new opening titles for ABC's Play School. In 2011 she joined the collaborative, creative team at Toby and Pete with a focus on typographic work and art direction. During 2012, she was a designer at award-winning studio Fuel VFX working on design and art direction for motion graphics in TV, Film and advertising.
