NAVA Synergy: 9 week coaching opportunity

Sydney, New South Wales

Synergy is an incubator program for artists and business leaders established by NAVA. It aims to enable artists and creative practitioners to gain practical skills and knowledge for forming and growing a sustainable business that will thrive in the competitive market of the arts. The program is delivered over 8 weeks with coaches spending approximately 15 hours working with their artist or attending events.

Synergy aims to create an environment that is enabling, supportive and valuing of the arts and creative industries. It will assist artists in developing strong and viable relationships between the arts and other commercial sectors with the aim of opening up new opportunities and longer-term career pathways.

The role of the coach is focus on supporting the artist in getting answers to their business questions, maximizing their entrepreneurial efforts and providing feedback on the project/pitch development.

The coach will provide 7 one-on-one sessions with artist, responding and providing feedback on business skills, project development and market opportunities. In return coaches gain access to a more creative way of thinking and enhance their leadership skills. Coaches are welcome to attend the Synergy events for artists, and will also have specific development aimed at enhancing their leadership skills.

The Coach will receive:

1. Opportunities for personal development through intense coaching with participants from a different sector of the economy,
2. Opportunities for relationship development within the creative sector potentially generating a greater understanding of the process of art making and production and this application in translating key organisational values into day-to-day practice,
3. Opportunities for business investment in the arts by opening up the possibilities for using the artistic process, its features and qualities to inform products and services,
4. Access to inspiration and innovative thinking and problem solving.

Ideally NAVA would like coaches to have some experience in mentoring, coaching or leading people. If not, however, coaches and artist participants will receive facilitated training session that will include an overview of coaching techniques.
