Design Assistant - Internship
Staged on the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi is one of Sydney’s most popular events, with 500,000 visitors viewing over 100 sculptures by artists from around the world. Founded in 1997, this free to the public exhibition captures the imagination of Sydney and its visitors for three weeks each spring and is established as the largest annual sculpture exhibition in the world.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Design Assistant to join the friendly team at Sculpture by the Sea. The Design Assistant will assist our Designer and Design Manager with print design, web design, social media and image management tasks.
The successful applicant will be working on design tasks in the lead-up to our Bondi exhibition based at our Surry Hills offices. There is the possibility of this role continuing to include work on site at our Bondi site office during the exhibition period (18 October - 4 November), and design work in the lead-up to our Cottesloe, WA exhibition in early 2013.
This is a 2 or 3 day a week internship, starting the week of 2nd July.
In consultation with the Designer and Design Manager responsibilities include;
- The production of Sculpture by the Sea print material including our exhibition catalogue, kids’ guide, calendar, posters, invitations, advertisements, merchandise and signage
- Updating content on the Sculpture by the Sea website and the production of web banners
- Creation and distribution of Sculpture by the Sea eNewsletters
- Online media promotion of the event and social network administration
- Management of Sculpture by the Sea image resources and internal and external image requests
- Advertisements bookings and liaising with suppliers
The ideal candidate;
- Friendly and enthusiastic, with a passion for the arts and not-for-profits
- Takes direction well, with the ability to work autonomously and can manage various tasks quickly and efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Has a good eye, with strong attention to detail
- High level skills in Adobe CS4-5; InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with website content management systems and eNewsletter production
- Pre-press experience setting up files to printer specifications
- Specific experience with vector graphics, and demonstration of this in your portfolio will be an advantage
Qualifications;
- Completed a university, TAFE or private design college course, or a 3rd or 4th year student seeking industry placement.
