Hi, I'm Jess Scully. I'm a writer, editor, curator and event director who specialises in the arts and creative industries.
I am the festival director of Vivid Ideas: an annual festival which supports, connects and inspires the creative industries. 2013 is my fifth year working on Vivid Sydney, first as the director of Creative Sydney and now as the director of Vivid Ideas.
In 2013 I joined the team as one of the curators of TEDxSydney, taking place on May 4 at the Sydney Opera House.
In 2010 served as policy adviser to the NSW Minister for the Arts. In 2009 developed and edited Creative Cities East Asia for the British Council, an 18 month project to document innovative urban models for creative cities and connect cities across the region.
I directed the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA), the airline's largest investment in youth and the arts, for five years. I have edited a variety of print publications, including SummerWinter, Hotpress, Yen and EMPTY.
I am passionate about creativity, urbanism, social innovation, systemic design, co-operative development, politics, publishing, photography and fashion. I love curating talks, events, workshops which explore these areas or inspire curiosity about these and any number of ideas.
I am available for consultancy, curation or writing projects.
FBI Radio's SMAC Awards recognise people and events who contribute to Sydney’s music, arts and culture – I’m thrilled to be in company with Hermitude, Flume, 107 Projects, VIVID Live, Gelato Messina, Zoe Coombs Marr and Benja Harvey, all of them winners this year, and all of them deadset legends.
