Composing a new score for the next Matt Bird short film to be entered into TROPFEST
About Me
Jared Underwood is an award winning composer and musician. Since graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a classical percussionist, he has been creatively engaged in a wide variety of musical and artistic collaborations with film directors, fashion designers, artists, contemporary dancers and musicians.
Jared won ‘best original score’ in TROPFEST 2011- ‘The worlds biggest short film festival’ for the film A Desperate Deed by director Matt Bird.
In June 2011 Jared won the Jury choice gold medal at the Park City Film Music Festival (Utah -USA) for his score to ‘Cold Sore’ also by director Matt Bird.
As a member of Sydney cinematic pop band CODA he has been twice nominated for an ARIA award.
Jared was a member of Sydney post rock band PROP whose members Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton went on to form The Presets.
Jared in collaboration with Flutter Lyon composed and performed original music for the 2010 Australian Fashion Week catwalk parade for cutting edge designer Konstantina Mittas
In mid 2010 Jared composed and performed in a collaboration with contemporary artist Lauren Brincat at the prestigious Anna Schwartz art gallery in Sydney.
Jared composed music in an unusual collaboration with talented young Typographer Gemma O’Brien at Sydneys Object Gallery in a show called StereoTyped.
As a collaborating musician Jared has worked in the studio along side – Stefan Skarbek (Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse), Daniel Johns (SilverChair), Luke Steele (Empire Of The Sun), Hugo Race (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Antony Partos (composer for film Animal Kingdom), Jono Ma (Los Valentinos), Grafton Primary, The Herd, Melanie Paine (Nuvelle Vague).
As a live performer Jared has played with - The Whitlams, Grafton Primary, Delta Goodrem, Brian McFadden, Lovers Electric, Lenka, King Tide, Ian Moss, Tim Minchin, Petulant Frenzy, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Jenny Morris, The McClymonts, Jimmy Little.
