Design for Developers
New South Wales, Sydney
If you're a developer and you want to boost your design skills, then this is the perfect class for you. Perhaps you've got some basic or slightly more advanced interaction design skills built up from your coding background, but now you want a few tricks up your sleeve to add polish and make your products look pro.
This hands-on class is ideal for start-ups who don't have budget or access to designers, engineers who work on UI, designers who are outnumbered by developers, and co-founders who do it all.
- Get a grasp on design fundamentals (typography, colour grids, etc.)
- Learn how to make your apps easier to use, and more pleasing to look at
- Deconstruct well-designed sites and apps
- We'll cover design patterns, libraries, and other tools
- Walk away with the tools to create better digital experiences
Bring your own laptop, mouse and a power cable, and your choice of writing instrument (felt tip, Sharpie, rollerball, construction pencil, etc.). The day before the class you'll need to download the 30-day free trials of Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks.
This class is for beginners and early intermediates. You've tinkered with Photoshop a bit, but you don't know where to start when designing a screen, or even a whole app. Come armed with your big idea and we can workshop that specifically.
Samantha Thebridge has been designing apps for devices and online since 1998. She’s been an interaction and visual interface designer for online booking systems and eCommerce sites for Qantas, Panasonic, Telstra, YHA and BigPond for company like Red Square, Boomworks, Wax, Atlassian, Westpac and now Cochlear. Samantha's passion is enabling developers to take a more active role in the design process, whether it's in a large team like JIRA or a two-person start-up.
