BRIEF:
Contemporary Vessel. Semester Two of 2009.
Design and produce a coil built vessel form that broadens the concept of ‘vessel’ or ‘containment’. Techniques to be used include decorative surface, scultpural additions, colour, texture, form and creative expression. Function, in the traditional sense, may become a secondary element.
WORK:
I created an oceanic contemporary vessel which was inspired by the coiling technique we were shown, this to me started to appear as coral then I experimented with colour, pattern and texture to find a design
that I thought was coherent with the vessel theme. The end product, fueled mostly by my creative expression, is a contemporary vessel that incorporates elements of the ocean.
I used clay and glazes, the vessel stands 21.5 cms tall. The work was completed Semester Two of 2009.
The work was chosen for exhibition in the Australian Catholic University’s McGlade Gallery, in Strathfield, in Semester One of 2010.
