For those of you who were unable to make the Portfolio Masterclass sessions that we hosted at Vivid Sydney, fear not! We took a little time out with each mentor to discover their top interview and portfolio tips so we could share them with you.
We kick off this series of tips with Andrew Van Der Westhuyzen from design and film collective, Collider. Supported by a mixed discipline of directors and designers, Collider has established itself as a leader in a multitude of disciplines, including commercials, art direction, visual communication, 3D animation and music videos.
Portfolio tips:
1) Don’t be afraid to be concise in the amount of work you show. It is better to be focussed than to try to show everything.
2) Give context and meaning to your work. Provide explanations as to why you came up with this idea.
Interview tips:
1) Relax!
2) Take time to talk about your projects and the thought process behind it. It’s better to talk about one project in depth than to rush through all your projects.
