Design... what is design?? It's everything
My Name is Peter Wong and I am currently in my 4th and final year of the Bachelor of Design, Industrial Design, at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Design has and always will be an integral part of my life. It has challenged me as a design student, and I have learnt many valuable lessons and skills throughout the degree.
Throughout my undergraduate studies I have undertaken a wide range of projects across many disciplines, ranging from air powered domestic appliances, sculptural representation of a car interior for GM Holden, to a children’s playground outside a exhibition centre, and an Architectural Multimedia library for a proposed building within Melbourne’s Central Business District.
This year my final year project focus’s on sustainable furniture design. Closing the gap between cheap flat pack furniture and high end products. Within the project I’m looking at multifunctional flat pack design and introducing a sustainable closed loop cycle theme for furniture products. There are many issues that I deem import when designing (consumer needs, environmental needs, product stewardship, product life and process, opposing trends and reinterpretation of materials and products) but none more than aesthetic and function. The importance of aesthetics and function coinciding together within the products I develop go hand in hand; designing something that’s visually appealing but functional. Furniture though is where my passion lies.
I am eager to get a foot in the door and grasp of the Design Industry working as a Industrial Designer. I am a quick learner and a great designer with interest in functional design that is sustainable, and minimizes environmental impact. I am self-motivated, reliable, hard working and honest person whose gained knowledge, skills and insight while at RMIT. I have extremely strong work ethic and enjoy working autonomously as well as in group environments, bouncing ideas off others. I have various skills ranging from CAD design modeling and rendering to graphic design, brainstorming and sketching.
