the Clash! series

This series of photos was born out of a collaboration between Alex and artist Lang Leav (aka Akina). Both fans of storybook imagery, they developed an idea that quickly expanded into a massive creative undertaking involving a total of 47 cast and crew, 3 months preparation and two very long shoot days. Other key collaborators include Pia Leong (production designer), Sivear Ung (milliner and physical character development) and Abbie Muntz and Samantha Hawken (retouchers).

The Clash series tells the story of the epic struggle between two characters - the good Liliput and evil Snow White. Snow White is a twisted version of her traditional self - a Mrs Havisham type character who broods in her lair and reflects on her days of glory. She hoards everything she's ever had and cages whatever is still living; it all slowly rots with her. Liliput is the travelling mage who bonds with all the forest creatures. Both are beings of power, but when Snow White abducts and cages one of Liliput's animal friends, Liliput takes her revenge and imprisons Snow White in that same cage to meditate on her failure.
