Marikit Santiago

My work is nourished by personal experience and draws upon imagery from my memories to construct a narrative within my paintings. I evaluate my uncertainties, my errors, my triumphs, all typical of the human condition. My work focuses upon sociological theories of relationships and identity in that we are not separate identities, but rather it is the relationships we engage in and the connections we make to objects and places that locate our identity. Furthermore, our memory is our most enduring personal characteristic and without it, we are nothing. Aesthetically, my work finds itself somewhere between portraiture and narrative painting.
