Overview
MTV Networks Australia is a 24 hour music and entertainment network targeting kids, young adults and older music fans. The network is owned by Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B) and was originally launched on Optus in March 1997.
Comprising renowned brands MTV, MTV Classic, MTV Hits, MTVNHD, MTVN, Nickelodeon & Nick Junior in Australia, since 2004 the network has been broadcast via the Foxtel, AUSTAR (basic) and Optus platforms: MTV – channel 124, MTV Classic – channel 810, MTV Hits - channel 808, MTVNHD - channel 252, MTVN - channel 812, Nickelodeon – channel 701 and Nick Jnr – channel 703.
MTV
MTV has an unrivalled all-access pass to the biggest global artists and emerging names in music. MTV original international shows Jersey Shore, The City, Nitro Circus, 16 & Pregnant and My Super Sweet 16 are all worldwide hits. These sit alongside the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Movie Awards, and Australia’s best locally produced shows Snow Jam and MTV Summer.
MTV’s digital arm is Australia’s leading supplier of video mobile content and the network also attracts more than 2 million unique users per month across its portfolio of locally-owned sites mtv.com.au, nick.com.au and Viacom assets including Neopets, Shockwave and Addicting Games.
MTV Classic
A 24-hour music television channel celebrating iconic artists from the 80s to the 00s, MTV Classic is home to back catalogue and the current hits of international and Australian artists such as Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Jackson, Prince, INXS, Powderfinger and Silverchair. Solidifying MTV’s respected and integral role in Australian music culture, MTV Classic will be the home of MTV’s original music programming, broadcasting acclaimed MTV music-inspired series including MTV Unplugged, Behind the Music, Storytellers and The Osbournes and artist footage from the MTV archives.

Nickelodeon
MTV Networks Australia operates the Nickelodeon business which launched in 1995 as a joint venture with XYZ. Astra ‘Channel of the Year 2009’ Nickelodeon is aimed at kids aged 5 – 15. Nick Jr, which launched in 2004, is aimed at 0 – 4 year olds.
